Quarterly Employment Survey Latest Results - Published 19th March 2014
- Seasonal adjusted estimates from the Quarterly Employment Survey showed that there were 706,900 employee jobs in December 2013. This represented an increase +2,910 jobs (+0.4%) over the quarter and an annual increase of +12,300 jobs (+1.8%).
- Over the latest quarter there were increases across all sectors; in the Services sector (+2,110 jobs), in the Construction sector (+420 jobs), in the Manufacturing sector (+370 jobs) and in the ‘Other Industries’ sector (+10 jobs). The public sector jobs increased by 0.4% (+810 jobs) while the private sector jobs also experienced an increase (+0.5% or +2,410 jobs), over the same period.
- The annual increase in jobs (+12,300 jobs) was driven primarily by an increase in Service sector jobs (+9,400 jobs). There were also increases in the Manufacturing sector (+2,480 jobs), in the Construction sector (+310 jobs) and in the ‘Other industries’ sector (+110 jobs). The Public sector increased by 1,790 jobs over the year but remains 4.1% lower (-9,350 jobs) than the series peak at September 2009. The private sector was up 10,490 jobs over year, but remains 4.7% (24,250 jobs) lower than the series peak in June 2008.
